Often the landscape in a given area is so difficult to navigate that you can only scratch your head and wonder, "Who would create a golf course here?" Rodney Barr takes the most of the Andratx architectural praise, having designed one of the most original, imaginative golf courses imaginable inside a steep, forested valley at camp de mar, on mallorca's southwest coast, in 1999.
Andratx is a beautiful, demanding, and exclusive golf course, with many blind shots, impossibly high teeing positions, dramatically doglegged fairways, wetlands, bunkers, and stone walls that often come into play. It's no surprise that the first hole on the course is named "Heaven Help Me" when you begin your round.
For several, golf at Andratx is an acquired taste, but fans would inform you that it provides a world-class golfing experience that is both challenging and relaxing. Wayward shots will be harshly punished, so carry your "a game" or you can be forced to part with a sleeve or two of golf balls during the round.
Surprisingly, buggies are only required to be used until mid-afternoon; after that, the truly ambitious golfer will walk the course!
