Majorca
The Arabella Golf and Spa Resort in Palma, Mallorca, has three 18-hole courses, including Son Muntaner. The oldest of the three courses is Son Vida, which was designed by Fred Hawtree in 1964 and was succeeded by Son Muntaner in 2001. Finally, in 2007, the Son Quint, designed by Ramon Espinosa, opened its doors.
Kurt Rossknecht has designed many of Germany's best courses, and he not only designed the 18 holes at Son Muntaner in 2001, but he also renovated the nearby Son Vida course at the same time.
The course is 7,000 yards long from the back markers and has a par of 72. It is routed over rough hills in two nine-hole courses, with ponds coming into play at some holes on the front nine, surprising for a mediterranean style. All of the greens are beautifully hourglass-shaped, and stone dykes have been built into the architecture (the par four 10th features a lovely ha-ha wall).
