Spain
The emporda golf club is situated in the lush and friendly lands of the costa brava, just north of barcelona. It's a relatively fresh but much-welcome addition to the area's dwindling number of world-class golfing attractions.
In 1989, a group of catalan businessmen from the baix emporda got together because they shared a passion for golf and wanted to build a top-notch facility. They bought 125 hectares of land near the village of gualta in the costa brava, and the first nine holes were open for play within two years. The community placed their trust in robert von haage, a well-known and well-respected texan architect, to design the emporda course.
Emporda currently has four nine-hole loops (formerly known as the blue, green, black, and red), which have been merged to form two courses called forest and links. Both courses include a variety of challenges.
The green was the first nine holes built at emporda, and it has been merged with the red, the most recent nine, to create the current links course. Its bare, treeless presence acts as a sharp reminder of the essence of british links golf. The rough is rugged, the bunkers are plentiful, and the greens are thin, swift, and contoured subtly. Water plays a role in irritating the golfer on a variety of holes on the links course at emporda, unlike actual links golf.
